Education

Partners In Progress is a partnership between the Norwin Chamber of Commerce, the Norwin School District and local business people. The Partners In Progress committee organizes the following educational events.

Job Shadowing - Juniors at Norwin High School explore their career interests for one day with a business person in the particular field. The Partners In Progress committee holds an orientation at the beginning of the school year. Interested students submit applications and are then set up for their shadowing near Ground Hog's Day.

Career Fair - Local companies, hospitals, armed services, businesses and professionals set up displays in the high school class rooms. Grades 9 through 12 attend informational lectures throughout the morning. Students can ask questions and address concerns about their area of career interests.

Excellence in Education Luncheon - These luncheons are held every May to honor the Top 20 students or 5 percent of the graduating class (whichever is higher) from the Norwin and Penn Trafford High Schools. The local business community sponsors the students' lunches and gifts.

Norwin Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Foundation - The Norwin Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation is a separate 501c3 organization, funded by the sales of candy bars and the annual Lottery Calendar. The Foundation awards a $2,000 scholarship to a Norwin senior. The senior and their parents are honored at the Norwin networking luncheon in May.

Leadership Westmoreland is a 10-session Leadership Development Program specially designed by the local chambers of commerce to expand community leaders and enhance creative leadership skills. The focus of the program is to grow self-awareness, developmental skills and community understanding.
